“Now And Then,” the band’s final song, written and sung by John Lennon and completed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, can now be heard worldwide
This song marks the conclusion of an era, connecting the band’s first song, “Love Me Do,” released in 1962, to their last, “Now And Then.” Both songs have been mixed in stereo and Dolby Atmos.
Additionally, a 12-minute documentary titled “Now And Then – The Last Beatles Song” is also available, providing a unique insight into the history behind the Beatles’ last song, featuring exclusive interviews with Paul, Ringo, George, Sean Ono Lennon, and Peter Jackson.
What Is This Song?
The journey of “Now And Then” began in the 1970s when John Lennon recorded a demo of the song. In 1994, Yoko Ono Lennon handed this recording to Paul, George, and Ringo, who completed it with new parts. However, technological limitations prevented the song from being finished at that time. It wasn’t until 2022 that Paul and Ringo finalized the song, adding new musical and vocal elements.
Paul McCartney commented, “There was John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite exciting. And all of us played on it; it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023, still working on Beatles music and about to release a new song the public hasn’t heard yet, I think it’s something exciting.”
Ringo Starr added, “It was as close as we got to having him back in the room, so it was very exciting for all of us. It was like John was there.”
New Compilation Albums
Anticipation for “Now And Then” has been growing since Paul mentioned “a new Beatles song” in an interview in June 2023. This final part of The Beatles’ recorded history will be followed by new editions of the “1962-1966” and “1967-1970” compilations, to be released on November 10. These compilations cover the band’s entire recorded catalog with 75 highlighted tracks, from “Love Me Do” to “Now And Then.” These collections also feature new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes, as well as essays written by journalist and author John Harris.
